Renting a home can be stressful. There are a lot of things to consider, from dealing with bad credit to finding a home that can fit your life. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of 7 things to look for in a rental home, to help keep your stress down and your hope up!
1. Location Matters.
Location has been a selling point since time out of mind. That is because your home should be convenient for you. You’ll want to find a rental home that is near your job, places you like to visit, you or your kids’ school, and plenty of good eats.
2. Lots of Parking.
Finding a place that has enough parking for you, dedicating parking if applicable, and maybe even (fingers crossed) a garage or covered parking is awesome. This can help avoid a lot of costly damages to your car or even towing bills.
3. Open Floor Plan
Open floor plans have been all the rage lately, and for great reason. Not only can they make a smaller space feel larger, they make moving throughout your house easier. It also gives you plenty of space to make your home look and feel more like your own.
4. Outdoors Galore.
Chances are your rental home will be on the smaller side. Which is why having access to outdoor space is so important. Being able to go outside is essential, especially if you have kids, pets, or just like outdoor activities like gardening. Plus, the health benefits are crazy!
5. Closet Space.
Let’s face it, closets aren’t just for clothes anymore. From providing storage place and even housing hidden washer/dryer combos, closets are used for a lot nowadays. And that’s why it’s so important to have plenty of closet space when you’re renting. Some entrepreneurs are even setting up shop in larger closets, freeing up even more of the main living space for family and fun.
6. Upgrades & Renovations
You can get a good idea about not just the house but the landlord by looking for upgrades and renovations. This can be anything from a new backsplash in a kitchen to all new floors, upgraded and new appliances, and in-unit washers and dryers. These kinds of things can make your life a lot easier, your home a lot more comfortable, and can show you that the person you’re renting from actually cares.
7. Awesome Landlords
So you’ve found your dream rental, awesome! But that doesn’t mean that the dream won’t become a nightmare if you don’t have a great landlord. Look for a landlord who is genuine and offers up testimonials. Exceptional landlords will even offer to put you in touch with previous tenants!
